I heal better than a Lizard when it comes to scarification‬

#FaceEquality, Yeah. But.…

In my own good faith I believe that I’m a ugly man and I’ve been very unattractive since I was a little boy because of my scars. My body is more unpleasant to look at than ever before with the addition of several more scars during adolescence and my 20s, 30s plus 40s.

My consciousness passes judgement on what I find awkward and I observe the incompetent plus laugh about being unlovable.

I am Not Your Villain

Rami Malek’s character's Safin has been criticised for his facial scarring.

"This isn’t about banning baddies from having scars or telling people not to enjoy a trip to the cinema, it’s about putting a line in the sand and saying now is the time to ensure other characters can be seen on screen with a visible difference too." (Adam Pearson, Changing Faces Ambassador)

Adam and Robert - both of whom featured in our latest #IAmNotYourVillain campaign film - spoke to ITV News about how once more visible difference is being used as a shorthand for villainy in the latest Bond movie #NoTimeToDie, and how we're calling on the franchise producers to feature a positive character with a scar or mark in the next Bond film.

Learn More About The Therapeutic Founder & Director

I turned down skin grafts as an infant only a year after my Mummy (RIP) divorced my bad dad. I had loads of problems with school teachers thinking the wrong thing about me and even got suspended from Junior school. I was what made it all the more of a problem back then as I was only starting to adjust and because I was an A student. A- that is, and still am even nowadays in my 40s, I hurt myself even more in loads of different ways until I mellowed out and enjoyed being different. Before I was 5 years old I burned my hand badly and then I smashed my scalp open falling off my trike. I also had scarlet fever and chicken pox plus an eczema which I grew out of when I started puberty. I also have CES (Cat Eye Syndrome) because I have a rare chromosome that makes me short-sighted and sensitive to light. From more burns to crashing skateboards, mountain bikes, motorcycles and cars as well as being outnumbered in one too many fights while at work, too. A few surgeries, a broken ankle and dislocated finger. 2 lots of scalp injuries of which one was caused by police officers' in gross misconduct. Cuts from catering and hospitality training. Run over by a Range Rover. Eye injury glued back together as well. 2 lots of bruised ribs…

Numerous sports injuries from school rugby team matches.

I have been bitten by 2 dogs.

In my 30s I had addiction problems with opium and my issues in wanting to chill out while I was sick as an addict made me a wimpy and moody person plus the sicker I got until I overcame myself and quit for good was all in the mind like it was all in a word.

Got into Hip-Hop, Breakdancing and Graffiti as a 9-year-old in 1985 and enjoyed being in the school choir plus the cubs and scouts, and had my first guitar at the age of 11 in 1987. But, I have a dislocated little finger from fighting with my mum's bad boyfriend.

Yeah, I am lucky, too, thank God and like a freak of nature, but nothing as extreme as what Jesus was capable of being semi-conductive. I destroy 24-carat gold with my sweat. It’s always better to be on the safe side of being careful anyway.

Ambitious truth & fairness, creatively enlightened.

I’m writing this to inform everyone that reads this I firmly believe in advocating “Face Equality.”

As a performing artist, I am very conscious of the mainstream media promotions that spin the beauty hype. Beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially sight. I am a man and my male gaze does enjoy the array of pulchritude worldwide, which of course is also a matter of personal preference too, but as I was trying to state originally...

Yes, it is inherently uncommon for performing artists across all genres to be facially disfigured.

Society should fully accept valuing those with disfigurement.

Changing Faces

https://www.changingfaces.org.uk/

Why?

Because I am facially disfigured and have been since my near-fatal accident at home when I was five years old. What are my reasons for sharing this? To help educate people and relate appropriately with other survivors that are also disfigured. Yes, I lost a considerable amount of blood plus I had an OBE (Outer Body Experience)

An out-of-body experience (OBE or sometimes OOBE) is an experience that typically involves a feeling of floating outside one's body and, in some cases, the feeling of perceiving one's physical body as if from a place outside one's body (autoscopy).
